Sarah joined the Buena Vista office of JVAM Law in March of 2026 with over ten years of litigation experience. Prior to joining JVAM, she worked as a solo practitioner, after founding Bernlohr Law LLC in 2019. As a solo practitioner, Sarah primarily practiced Dependency and Neglect cases, representing children as a Guardian ad litem and indigent parents as Respondent Parent Counsel. She practiced in Chaffee, Fremont, and Custer counties, as well as throughout the San Luis Valley, and she would appear in court multiple times per week. Prior to moving to Salida, Sarah worked for a firm in Denver, where she specialized in Dependency and Neglect cases and criminal defense matters. Prior to that, Sarah practiced as a Deputy State Public Defender for three years in Colorado Springs, where she tried over twenty jury cases, ranging from traffic infractions to felony charges.
Sarah’s years of experience as a trial attorney provide her the confidence to face any challenge, whether in or outside of the courtroom. Sarah is familiar with the emotional toll that legal involvement can have on her clients, and she considers empathy to be her greatest superpower. Sarah truly cares about people, and that is evident in her legal representation.
Sarah earned her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2014, where she was an editor for the South Carolina Law Review. Prior to law school, Sarah attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated cum laude. However, after laying eyes on the Colorado mountains for the first time ever during her third year of law school, Sarah completely changed up her life, and she has been chasing the mountain lifestyle ever since!
Outside of work, Sarah is usually trail running, mountain biking, skinning up Monarch Mountain at sunrise, reading, or camping with her husband and daughter. Sarah is also a certified run coach and yoga instructor, and she has read 78 books in just the last two years!
