Lucas Van Arsdale

Partner

Lucas Van Arsdale is a founding partner at JVAM and primarily works out of the firm’s Aspen office. He has earned a strong reputation as one of the Roaring Fork Valley’s most highly regarded business and real-estate lawyers.

Lucas is a gifted, creative problem solver with a rare combination of skills: he is simultaneously an experienced trial attorney and a skilled and practical deal lawyer. Because of those skills, he has also become a capable and sought-after mediator.

Regarding real estate, Lucas’ practice encompasses the full spectrum of issues clients encounter, both in Aspen and throughout the Roaring Fork Valley. This includes the purchase and sale of residential, ranch, and commercial real estate; negotiations and dispute-resolution regarding access, easements, encroachments, and title issues; all manner of actions relating to mining claims; navigating construction and development issues; negotiating commercial and residential leases and resolving all forms of lease-related disputes; all aspects of secured financing, including lender-side due diligence, loan document prep, perfection and release of liens, and, when necessary, foreclosures; and all aspects of law relating to Homeowners’ Associations and Condominium Owners’ Associations.

Lucas is also intimately knowledgeable regarding the local business climate and the unique issues it creates for business owners, particularly in industries like construction, real estate, restaurants, and outdoor recreation. That local knowledge, together with his innate pragmatism, extensive business experience, and superior ability to either collaborate or litigate depending on the needs of the situation, makes him an invaluable resource for his business clients. Lucas advises businesses relating to all aspects of business formation, asset purchases and sales, labor and employment laws, independent contractor agreements, construction contracts, service contracts, licenses, leases, financing arrangements, partner buy-outs, and business dissolutions.

Lucas is the current board chairperson for Alpine Legal Services, a non-profit focused on providing access to justice for vulnerable members of the community who don’t otherwise qualify for state-sponsored legal representation. He also serves as Vice President of the Judicial Performance Commission for the Ninth Judicial District, to which he was appointed by the President of the Colorado Senate. He has authored and taught multiple continuing education classes for attorneys and real estate brokers relating to real estate and business matters. And, lately, he can often be found on the sidelines of children’s lacrosse tournaments over a shockingly (to him, at first) wide-ranging expanse of locations across the state, cheering loudly for his daughters’ teams.
