Lucas Van Arsdale – Partner

Lucas Van Arsdale is a founding partner at JVAM. Primarily working out of the firm’s Aspen office, Lucas is one of the most reputable and respected lawyers for real estate and business matters in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Lucas is a gifted, creative problem solver with a rare combination of talents. He is an experienced trial attorney and a well-known dealmaker whose negotiating skills and pragmatism are sought after. He is also a capable and experienced mediator—his years of experience as a litigator and skill at guiding transactions, together with his creativity and practicality, make him an adept dispute-resolution specialist.

Lucas’ real estate practice in Aspen and throughout the Roaring Fork Valley encompasses the purchase and sale of residential, ranch, and commercial real estate; negotiations and dispute-resolution surrounding access, easements, encroachments, and title issues; all manner of actions relating to mining claims; negotiating commercial and residential leases and resolving all forms of lease-related disputes; all aspects of secured financing, including lender-side due diligence, loan document prep, perfection and release of liens, and, when necessary, foreclosures; and all aspects of law relating to Homeowners’ Associations and Condominium Owners’ Associations.

Lucas’ business practice focuses on construction, real estate, restaurants, and outdoor recreation. He is intimately knowledgeable regarding the local business climate and the unique issues it creates for business owners. That, together with his innate pragmatism, extensive business experience, and superior ability to identify when it’s desirable to collaborate, makes him an invaluable resource for his business clients. Lucas advises businesses relating to all aspects of business formation, asset purchases and sales, labor and employment laws, independent contractor agreements, construction contracts, service contracts, licenses, leases, financing arrangements, partner buy-outs, and business dissolutions.

Lucas serves on the Judicial Performance Commission for the Ninth Judicial District, to which he was appointed by the President of the Colorado Senate, and as a board member for Alpine Legal Services. He has authored and taught multiple continuing education classes for attorneys and real estate brokers relating to real estate and business matters. And, most recently, he has become a sought after substitute kindergarten soccer coach.
